The 'look" of a kitchen is an important
element of any kitchen remodeling project but, there are many guidelines and details that will make your new
kitchen more functional and enjoyable. NKBA trained designers know how to get the most
from every kitchen. Storage needs, counter space and walk way clearances are only a
few of the many elements that need to be addressed in any good custom kitchen design. A poor design will doom
a project before it begins. Allen David Cabinetry employs only NKBA trained
designers.

The truth about "Big Box Store
Designers"
A designer with National
Kitchen and Bath Association certification has a minimum of 30 hours of classroom
training, a minimum of 2 years of experience and has passed a rigorous test. A "designer" at a big box store has
taken a 3 hour course on how to use design software. That's it. That might explain
why customers who hire the big box stores to do home improvements have such a low
satisfaction rate.
Kitchen professionals
are immersed in the industry and have in depth knowledge of the products they offer. This is
their profession. They don't work in the lawn and garden department some days and "fill
in" in the kitchen department on others. A faulty
design will result in compromised function of the kitchen and prolong the construction due to
incorrect ordering.
Choosing the right design professional is an
important decision for your project’s success. By selecting an NKBA -certified designer, you will
be working with a professional who:
- Has demonstrated comprehensive
knowledge in kitchen and bath design, as well as construction, mechanical, plumbing and
electrical systems.
- Adheres to a strict code of
professional conduct.
- Is an expert in the NKBA Kitchen &
Bath Planning Guidelines & Access Standards, which recognizes the importance of consumer
health, safety, and welfare in kitchen and bath design.
- Is a member of the National Kitchen
& Bath Association (NKBA), the kitchen and bath industry’s leading professional
organization that provides them with the training and tools needed to
succeed.
- Is skilled at assessing consumers’
individual needs and wants and creating designs that meet and exceed these
requirements.
- Remains current on local building
codes, safety and environmental regulations and the wealth of new products and equipment on the
market.
When hiring a professional to work on your
dream kitchen or bath, be sure to look for the NKBA certified or member logo
